Reaching for Stars brings together young women
to realise their dreams through after
school clubs, school holiday programs,
camps and online forums.
Do you have dreams to reach for the stars? Whether you want to be an artist, lawyer, in politics, an entrepreneur, an astronaut or something completely different we believe in you. That is why we are co-creating Reaching for Stars with young women like you.
Reaching for Stars is a new program that has been co-designed with girls aged 14-18 and is being supported by Dream in Code and the Pooraka Farm Community Centre. We meet fortnightly during term time and are currently planning our next intake. The program includes school holiday activities organised by the participants (and supported by us) that are fun as well as building up employable skills to put on your resume.
Over the term the participants meet fortnightly (during term time) to work on fun activities like cooking and craft, discuss topics including jobs, topics of interest and the history of South Australian women. At the centre of the program is friendship – meeting new friends, supporting each other to reach our goals. We also learn practical and job-ready skills as we plan and hold our school holiday activities, normally held over two days. Previous activities have included planning a disco for other young people, going to visit the art gallery and universities, and a visit to the Adelaide Zoo. The program aims to increase confidence, encourage girls to speak up and to support them to Reaching for Stars in whatever fields are important to them. We believe in them and we want to help make sure that they believe in themselves – no matter what comes their way.
Please note that there is a contribution of $60 per term which covers the cost of snacks and materials. We do not want anyone to miss out and can provide scholarships if needed.
